Chapter Twelve

Adam moved to his bed about four a.m., knowing that the littles might come looking for him. He kissed Hutch on the cheek, gathered his clothes, and padded down the hall. He slipped into his bed, sighed softly, and let himself melt into the sheets, a replay of the night's events playing in his head.

Hutch was... God, sexy. Kind. Caring. The touches had made him ache.

He shifted on the bed, his erection making itself known again. Hutch had made him feel sexual and he'd been starting to wonder if he'd ever feel like that again. And now here he was, hard again just from thinking about the man. Crazy.

Hutch was totally not his type, either. He dated guys his age who were into the club scene, into parties and dancing and the occasional drunken bender.

Hutch was... not old, but older. He was into family and baking and watching movies together, reading to the littles. He was... handsome and had a great belly, and a delicious cock. Adam wanted to ride it, feel it deep inside him.

Oh damn, that had him wrapping his hand around his cock.

Before he could really get going, a scream rang out, piercing and frightened.

"Coming!" His erection disappeared immediately, then he stumbled into a pair of pajama bottoms and headed out at a run.

Hutch was just ahead of him when he reached the room, all the littles awake and crying.

Hutch went to Lizzie first, though, tugging her into his lap. "Shh. Shh. Did you have a bad dream?"

"Hut! Hut, the zommies! The ZOMMIES!"

Adam grabbed Felicia and went to Darla's bed to sit.

"The zommies..." Hutch said slowly. "Oh! Do you mean Zombies, honey?"

She nodded. "The mean zommies! Charlie showed us in the TV!"

Adam's reaction was immediate. "I'm going to kick his ass."

Hutch nodded. "You and me both." Hutch held Lizzie tighter. "Most of the things on TV aren't real. And there are no such things as zombies."

"Uh-huh. I seed them." She sobbed, holding Hutch tight. "Oh, Hut. The zommies will bite you and then you will bite the babies."

"Addie-Lou? Will they?" Darla's eyes were huge.

"They will not." He weighed in with all his confidence. "I promise you, they are a scary movie. Makeup. Not real."

"That's right. I promise you, Lizzie, I will never bite you or anyone else, I promise. And zombies aren't real so none of them can bite me." Hutch sounded just as sure about this as he had.

"I don't like zommies, Addie-Lou." Felicia whispered.

"That's okay, little. You don't have to. It's okay. I like SpongeBob. Do you?"

Darla nodded. "Uh-huh."

"I like Kermit and Elmo," Hutch added. "And to share cookies with the Cookie Monster."

"I like Big Bird." Lizzie sniffled. "My eyes hurt, Hut."

"How about a nice cold cloth and kisses?" Hutch suggested.

Adam thought they all just needed to go back to sleep. Felicia was already out again and Darla's head was bobbing.

Hutch disappeared for twenty seconds, coming back with the cloth and dealing with Lizzie's eyes. "Okay, sweetie. Time to go back to sleep."

"Stay for a minute?" Lizzie asked.
